EFFoST Student of the Year Awards winners 2020

EFFoST would like to congratulate the winners of the Student of the Year Awards 2020. During the 34th EFFoST International Conference, Cargill and EFFoST awarded 6 MSc and PhD students from all over Europe for their outstanding food science research.

An international panel of food experts from science and industry reviewed the many excellent applications that were submitted. The candidates' research was assessed according to the level of scientific quality, inventiveness and the potential business impact. 

And the winners of the EFFoST Student of the Year Awards 2020 are:

1st PhD Prize

Greta Canelli
ETH Zurich

Title of winning abstract:
Enzymatic degradation of Chlorella vulgaris cell wall to enhance protein and lipid bioaccessibility.

 

2nd PhD Prize

Felix Schottroff
University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU), Vienna

Title of winning abstract:
Selective recovery of functional compounds from bacteria using continuous pulsed electric field treatment.

 

3rd PhD Prize

Susanne Naumann
Technical University of Munich

Title of winning abstract:
Extrusion processing – influence on the physiochemical and functional properties of lupin kernel fibre.

 

MSc Student of the Year Award         


1st MSc Prize

Jing Hu
University of Leeds

Title of winning abstract:
Lubrication and rheological properties of lactoferrin microgel particles.

 

2nd MSc Prize

Eric Morelle
Technical University of Berlin

Title of winning abstract:
Monitoring and predicting foam with artificial neural networks.

 

Popular Vote Award

Ioanna Semenoglou

National Technical University of Athens (N.T.U.A.)

Title of winning poster:
The use of shelf life predictive modelling in applying blockchain technology in the fish supply chain management system.

 

All winners received an award and prize money and had their conference registration fees covered. The winners will also present their research at the Cargill’s European R&D Centre but with the current COVID-19 situation it is yet to be decided when the visit can be organized.
