EFFoST Student of the Year award winners 2022

EFFoST would like to congratulate the winners of the Student of the Year award 2022. EFFoST and our sponsor Cargill awarded 6 MSc and PhD students from all over Europe for their outstanding food science research at EFFoST2022 in Dublin.

The European Federation of Food Science and Technology and our sponsor Cargill are dedicated to fostering the next generation of food scientists and professionals by acknowledging their academic achievements with the EFFoST Student of the Year Awards. An international panel of food experts from science and industry reviewed the many excellent applications that were submitted. The candidates' research was assessed according to the level of scientific quality, inventiveness and potential business impact.

And the winners of the EFFoST Student of the Year Awards 2022 are:

PhD Student of the Year Awards

1st Prize - Ecaterina Stribiţcaia
Research title: Oral lubrication performance of food - a new textural manipulation to enhance satiety

2nd Prize - Daniel Golodnizky
Research title: New insights into the thermodynamics and kinetics of triacylglycerols crystallization

3rd Prize - Elena Zand
Research title: Innovative pulsed electric fields assisted flow cytometry for rapid microbial detection

MSc Student of the Year Awards

1st Prize - Byron Pér­­ez Simba
Research title: Leveraging heterotrophic microalgae eco-efficiency through novel nanosecond pulsed electric fields for more sustainable food production

2nd Prize - Julia Matysek
Research title: Effects of ultrasound on off-flavour-related aroma compounds in a pea protein-based yoghurt alternative


Popular vote 2022

Each year the top applicants of the EFFoTStudent of the Year competition have the opportunity to compete for the Popular Vote Award for the best student poster presentation. The winner was chosen by the conference delegates at EFFoST2022. 

Popular vote award 2022 - Annachiara Pirozzi
Research titled: Capillary suspensions for oil structuring with agri-food residues micronized via high-pressure homogenization in oil

All winners received an award and prize money and had their travel expenses and conference registration fees covered. In the spring of 2023, they will be visiting Cargill’s European R&D Centre to present their research.

Make sure to tell your colleagues and students that the EFFoST Student of the Year Awards will be held again in 2023. Applications open in April.
