Data4Food2030 Monitor launched to track Europe’s food data economy

May 01, 2025

The Data4Food2030 Monitor, which aims to help stakeholders such as farmers, policymakers, food companies, and consumers across the food system make informed decisions, develop effective digital strategies, and identify valuable collaboration opportunities, is now live!

The European food system is experiencing a surge in data-driven innovations, leading to an increase in data generation across the value chain. However, this surge has also highlighted key challenges such as insufficient data governance frameworks and a lack of interoperability, which hinder effective data sharing. This fragmentation limits the full leverage of data’s potential to drive efficiency, sustainability, and innovation. To tackle these issues and promote greater data valorization across all sectors of the food system, the Data4Food2030 Monitor was developed and officially launched on April 9, 2025.

This new platform monitors key insights and emerging trends within Europe’s Data Economy for Food Systems (DE4FS). Developed as part of the Horizon Europe project Data4Food2030 by ILVO, Wageningen University & Research, Netcompany Intrasoft, and the Lisbon Council, the Monitor provides a comprehensive view of the DE4FS.

Currently, the Monitor focuses on nine key dimensions: Data Information, Economy & Business, Technology, Legal, Environment, and Social & Ethics. It combines data from official statistics, research outputs, web mining, and contributions from stakeholders to offer a dynamic and evolving overview.

Organizations and stakeholders are invited to register their Data Sharing Initiatives (DSIs) directly on the platform, contributing to the growing collective knowledge base and encouraging cooperation across countries and sectors. Check out the Monitor and register your initiative here.

EFFoST remains committed to transforming food systems across Europe and is proud to be part of the Data4Food2030 project. The launch of the Monitor marks another key milestone in advancing the data economy and fostering collaboration within the agri-food sector.
